An Open Letter

To the moms who I wish didn't get it...

Dear Grieving Mom,

I never imagined I’d be here—writing these words, building this space. But I know I’m not alone.

There are mothers like me all over the world… carrying love with nowhere to place it.

I’ll Leave a Light On was born from the quiet grief of being a mother whose child no longer chooses to be in my life. This isn’t the story I planned, but inspite of the pain, I had to find a way to still get up everyday and keep going.

Sadly, I've encountered other mothers in the same situation. This space was built slowly, through tears, and opening up my wounds fresh.

But through the grief, I created this space to say: You are not alone. Your motherhood still matters. Your story still deserves to be held. If you’ve been walking in the dark—come sit with us in the light.

With profound understanding,

Deandra

Why The Light Stays On

We exist because:

  • Your motherhood doesn’t end when the relationship does.

  • Your grief is real—even when others don’t see it.

  • You can still live, heal, and find moments of joy… even while you wait.

This is not a place of fixing or forcing.
This is a place of holding—And above all—
We believe in leaving the light on.
Not as a guarantee, not as a promise fulfilled,
but as an act of love.
A quiet beacon.
A glow in the window.
So that if your child ever wants to find their way home... they know the way.

If you’re carrying love unreturned,
if your story doesn’t fit the card aisle,
if you're still mothering, even in the dark—
you belong here.

There is no word for a mother whose child is still alive, yet no longer reachable.

No rituals. No words. Just the quiet ache of love with nowhere to go.

Estrangement is a quiet grief, a kind of loss that lives in the shadows. It doesn't scream, but it weighs. It lingers. It asks you to smile at baby pictures that still live on your phone and sit through holidays with a chair left empty—not by death, but by choice.

It’s waking up every day with a love that’s still alive, still burning, and still waiting to be returned.

I’ll Leave a Light On was created as a soft place to land for those who carry this invisible ache. It exists as a refuge—for the mothers who were left behind, but who have never let go. It’s a place where we name the pain, honor the love, and hold space for the in-between.

Because some grief lives in the silence between us—and some love never stops lighting the way home.
